Sunday Sermons

These are the notes from today's sermon....

It was titled - A costly choice - sin in the camp and was taken from Joshua 6:10-20.
The story unfolds through chapter 8. (Read it - it's a great story ~smile~)

- God had clear instructions for them.
- He wanted them to know that they depended totoally on Him.
- They obeyed God and when they did God gave them victory.
- When God does something there are no half measures.
- The spoils were to be kept for God vs. 19.
- Chapter 7 vs. 1 starts with a very significant word "but".
- Achan did exactly what God told them not to.
- God was putting them to the test by saying don't take it.
- People said God is with us there is nothing to worry about vs. 3.
- Vs. 13 Sanctify yourselves, there is an accursed thing in your midst.
- Someone disobeyed now we are in a mess.
- What have we done? How have we been involved in things to help our church?
- Is it possible there is something in our lives holding back God's blessingon our church.
- Is it possible we've been playing around with the accursed thing? Disobeyed God?
- Do we think it's just us? Who cares everyone else is good?
- Vs. 19 - Confrontation -must be dealt with.
- Vs. 21 - Why did he need to hide it? It was wrong to have it.
- They stoned Acahn and his family and burned them and all his stuff.
- We need to be grateful that God is gracious, slow to anger and full of mercy.
- We cannot play around with God. Be not deceived God will not be mocked.
- We cannot treat sin lightly. If I regard iniquity in my heart, God will not hear me.
- If I am doing something God has told me is wrong or not doing what I should, if I cling to it - God will not hear my prayers.
- If I am hanging on to a sin - god won't hear my prayer.
- God knows our heart, we know our heart, no one else may know.
- But it may be standing in the way of God's blessing for the church and for us.
- We are bought with a price.
- Glorify God in our bosy and spirit- they are His.
- We can't pretend sin is ok if no one knows.
- They deserved what they got.
- God does not ignore sin.
- Ch. 8 vs. 1 - God gave them victory and allowed them to keep the spoil.
- God expects us to do something about any known sin on our lives.
- God expects us to deal with sin in our own lives - no one can do it for us - we can't do it for others.
- We need to see God move in our midst.
- We can't keep hiding things, pretending they aren't there, or feeling like they won't be discovered.
- Ch. 7 vs. 26 - Valley of Acchor = Door of Hope
- When we have dealt with sin there is a door of hope.
- The Lord expects us to move ahead with victory.
- God is gracious and He will give us victory.

Wonderful sermon again! Really convicting for me.
Happy Sunday one more time!
Blessings,
Liisa

  1. the leadership of a church I attended in Ottawa, allowed a questionable teacher and his teachings into the church. It caused confusion and devision amongst the congregation and many things started to fall apart, including marriages. The church has been struggling ever since.
We must be very careful to listen to the leading of God's spirit and discard whatever does not line up with His word or we allow the enemy's spirits of confusion and destruction to enter in.
