A Great Article

I just came across a great article that I had to share. This morning I came to a realization that has been coming for a LONG time but I have been pushing it away..you ever do that...you get the McFly but you keep pushing it away until finally God hits you with a brick? Well that happened to me this morning. I finally realized that while I may nag and bug others about horror movies etc. I have been allowing bad influences into my life too....and though I have been fighting it I realized due to some effects it has been having in my life that I need to quit it and gaurd my mind and my thoughts from all things that are unpleasing to God...I know DUH! So anyway I came across this article that is really wonderful and had realistic advise and steps to take that is not from a fanatical legalistic stand point please read it the link is here.

Here is a bit of what it had to say.....(love the cake portion!)

The Bible tells us not to conform to the world’s standards, beliefs and practices; but to let God transform us and change us into people who are like His Son. The world lies to us and tells us that all sorts of things people do, believe, and say are "no big deal," but when we compare them to God’s standards as they are put forth in the Bible, we see that they fall very short. What are some of these lies the world tells us?

The first lie that the world tells us is, "It doesn’t affect me."

You know this lie - you may have even used it yourself. I know I have. "Yeah, I know that the language in this movie is a bit rough, but I’m not watching it for that. And besides, it doesn’t really affect me." Or, "I know that book has a lot of sex in it, but I just skip over those parts. I don’t read the book for those parts." If a man says he just reads Playboy for the articles, he’s laughed at - everybody knows that’s not true! Yet we do watch, listen to, and read all sorts of things all time that aren’t good for us spiritually. And we try to justify it by saying, "Yeah, I know the lyrics are explicit, the language is bad, or there’s nudity & sex, but I don’t watch it for that and besides, it doesn’t affect me." Who are we kidding when we say that kind of thing? Not God, certainly, and probably not even ourselves, if we’re honest.

When we willingly introduce temptation into our lives, we’ve already lost the battle. The temptation to sin comes to us quite readily enough on its own, so we need to be honest with ourselves and keep in mind that everything we take in has potential to affect us negatively. Don’t buy into the lie that you can take in all sorts of filth and it won’t affect you.

Another worldly lie is, "Everybody’s doing it/listening to it /watching it, etc." You don’t have to be a parent for very long at all before you repeat the sentiment that your parents tormented you with. "Mom, can I go here and to this or that?" "No," you say, "you may not." Your child says, "But, everybody’s parents are letting them!" And then you respond with the classic reply: "Well, if everybody’s parents let them jump off a cliff, would you jump off too?"

We parents like to think that this line of logic is convincing, but I suspect that many children would follow their friends off the cliff - if only because we adults use the same argument to justify doing what we know to be wrong. "Everybody’s seen that movie, I don’t want to be only one who hasn’t. Everybody’s reading this book…. Nobody I know sees any harm in this activity, so why shouldn’t I join in?" The problem with this logic is that majority vote, consensus, or even what year it is does not determine right and wrong. The appropriate question is not whether everybody else is doing it, but whether or not God approves, whether or not it brings us closer to Him or makes us less like His Son Jesus. The Bible says, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12). Whatever it is that you’re tempted to do that you shouldn’t do, the truth is that not everybody is doing it, and even if they were, that doesn’t make it right!

A third lie that we use: "Well, I know parts are bad, but parts are good, too." This is often applied to such things as movies, TV shows, reading materials, professional wrestling, and you name it. All I have to say to this line of reasoning is to offer to bake you a cake some time soon. I guarantee that 99% of the ingredients will be fresh, pure and wholesome. The other 1% will be tainted with botulism. Do you want a piece of that cake? Come on, only 1% is bad! I know that this is simplistic logic, but if we take seriously the Bible’s teachings on our thoughts being the gateway to souls, we’ll not risk being infected by a small amount of poison mixed into the whole.

I hope you take a moment to read the whole article it is worth it.

Have a Happy Day!

Just a Thought

This morning I was assaulted with grief and despair over past actions which were sinful. It was a bad moment where I just felt so bad about it and could not shake it even after praying about it. These things happened many years ago but the memory came flooding back full force - I felt so guilty I thought I just want to die.

Suddenly I felt God saying but you have died already. You have died to that sinful life. The old man has passed away you are a new creature.

It is true that person I was is dead. Hallelujah! Praise God! His mercies are new every morning!

Just thought I would share the wonders of God's love I have experienced today.

Money Matters Monday

Today's tip is tip use the library! It is easy and free to get a library card. It is also super easy to access materials from the library.

Thanks to their online catalogue you can search and browse for materials online in the comfort of your home and order them to be picked up at your branch. Your librarian then calls you or emails you when they are ready. You have access to items at all the branches in the Huron County library system which is amazing!

Besides books they have over 6000 movies you can check out and are adding more all the time since they offer new releases as well. You will have to wait a little if others have it checked out to get brand new movies but they are free! This adds up to alot of savings when you think about the cost to rent movies these days.

They also have video games, magazines, CD's, audio books etc.

I love our library and make full use of it savings oodles of money! What could be better!

Happy Monday!

Sermon Sundays

This week our pastor is away at a men's retreat in New Brunswick so we had a guest speaker Mr. Ed Esau from New Tribes Missions.

It was a great sermon based on Hebrews 12:1-12, about God chastening us.

- Vs.1 -This is written to Christians who need encouragement - keep on walking by faith. Endure.
- Vs.2- Keep your focus on the author and finisher of your faith.
- The reality is that we will get discouraged. Things come along that suck. As we focus on Him that will make a difference so we won't get discouraged.
- There is always someone worse off than you.
- Vs. 4 - We haven't reached that yet. It happened to Jesus.
- Wondered has God ever chastened me? If I say no then the Bible says I am not His son. Was I even saved? vs.8
- Vs. 11 Chastening is not pleasant.
- In English Chastening = punishment.
- In Greek it = to train up or educate like a father training up a child it will sometimes lead to discipline.
- Chastening here is the same word as is used in Eph. 6:4 to mean educate.
- Is God punishing me? No. Is He training me? Yes to be more like His Son.
- God trains every son. He teaches us things.
- In difficult times God trains us and teaches us.
- The same word is used again in 2 Timothy 3:16 to mean educate.
- He's been teaching and leads all our lives.
- This same word is used in Acts 7:22 Same word learned in all wisdom.
- Acts 22:3 taught = same word.
- Do not despise God teaching us, training us, educating us.
- We really are His sons if He has been doing that.
- God has not punished us but has brought us through tough times. Leading us.
- We need total dependence on God. He wants to help us. Bring us through the hard times just depend on Him.
- Romans 8:28-29
- Eph.2:10 saved - We are His, Which God prepared before hand.
- God had our path laid before we were ever saved.
- Confidence i being in God's path. Relying on Him.
- 1 John 1:9
- When bad things happen we may wonder are we being punished. But God is working in our heart and life and causing us to depend on Him.
- Vs. 11 says it yields peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised by it.
- Vs. 12 - Pick up and go ahead. we can face difficulties because He is with us.
- Yes stuff happens but His tender love is there for us.
- Whatever you are facing - as you look at them believe that God is at work in your life.
- Trust Him. Depend on Him.
- He works in our heats and lives through the things that happen to us.
- Grace does not run out. We can go to God again and again.

Happy Sunday!

Liisa

Recipe Thursday

This is a casserole I made for some people who were not up to cooking one day this week. It is quick and easy and I generally have all the ingredients on hand so it is easy to make for others on short notice.

Tip- I usually have baggies of cut up chicken or turkey in the freezer. Whenever we have those I dice up any leftover meat and fill a sandwich baggie about half full and freeze them in a bigger freezer bag. This way whenever I need some chicken or turkey I can just pull out one bag for a casserole or pot pie or two for chicken curry etc. Easy! ~smile~

Note - When I made this the other day I made it in a 9x13 pan so I doubled this recipe.

Hearty Chicken and Noodle Casserole

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 cup frozen mixed veggies (could also use broccoli cut small)
2 cups cut up cooked chicken (I don't use that much)
2 cups noodles cooked. (I usually just eyeball how much will fit in the casserole dish.)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar (optional)

Stir soup, milk, parmesan and rest of ingredients in a 1 1/2 quart casserole.
Bake covered at 400 for 25 minutes until hot.
Stir.
Top with cheddar.

Enjoy!

Quick, easy and surprisingly yummy!

Happy Thursday!

Liisa

Whatever Wednesdays

Today I just thought I'd mention our Valentine's Day plans - please let me know what you think....

Since our plan is to give out cookies on Valentine's Day, I thought that first thing that morning you ladies could come over and we would decorate and package the soft sugar cookies which I can bake before hand. Then we can make the tags to go on each cookie which will say Happy Valentine's Day! God loves you! or something to that effect. I bought cellophane Valentine's day bags which I hope the cookies fit in so we'll tie on the tags with ribbon or raffia and head out to give them away. Mum and I thought we could each have a basket of cookies and just walk around downtown and hand them out to whoever we come across. People working in stores, businesses, on the street in the post office etc. I don't think we should give away cookies to customers in stores though, since the owners may get upset.

What do you think? I am hoping that by doing this we may open the doors to talk about the gospel but at the very least people will receive the message that they are loved on Valentine's Day by the One who loves them the more than anyone else could.

Happy Wednesday!

Liisa

Bible Study Tuesdays

Since the majority of the ladies were unable to make it today for one reason or another I decided to cancel the study for today, so we will all be on the same page next week. We will continue next week with Matthew chapter 3.

Happy Tuesday!

Money Matters Monday

Today's tip is to reduce the number of trips you take in your vehicle.
This morning my hubby put gas in our truck and it was $1.08/litre! That is rediculous!

So with a little planning and thought you can save quite alot of money by making only one trip a week out of town. Plan your menu and any sale items you want to pick up, errands you need to run, appointments etc. and schedule it all for one day of the week. Making just that one trip instead of four or five or more can save a ton of money! If you discover you need something you forgot or that suddenly comes up then perhaps just grabbing it at a local store is a better choice than wasting gas for just and item or two. Perhaps you will discover that you can wait for that item until your next weekly trip.

Even if you have to travel to another town for work you can still save money by doing your groceries and other errands while there for work anyway thus avoiding extra trips and more gas.

Car pool for your weekly trip as well, splitting gas costs and saving even more money while enjoying time with friends. ~smile~

Take the gas money Mum...yes this means you! *wink*

Happy Monday!
Happy Money Saving!

Liisa

Sunday Sermons

These are the notes from today's sermon....

It was titled - A costly choice - sin in the camp and was taken from Joshua 6:10-20.
The story unfolds through chapter 8. (Read it - it's a great story ~smile~)

- God had clear instructions for them.
- He wanted them to know that they depended totoally on Him.
- They obeyed God and when they did God gave them victory.
- When God does something there are no half measures.
- The spoils were to be kept for God vs. 19.
- Chapter 7 vs. 1 starts with a very significant word "but".
- Achan did exactly what God told them not to.
- God was putting them to the test by saying don't take it.
- People said God is with us there is nothing to worry about vs. 3.
- Vs. 13 Sanctify yourselves, there is an accursed thing in your midst.
- Someone disobeyed now we are in a mess.
- What have we done? How have we been involved in things to help our church?
- Is it possible there is something in our lives holding back God's blessingon our church.
- Is it possible we've been playing around with the accursed thing? Disobeyed God?
- Do we think it's just us? Who cares everyone else is good?
- Vs. 19 - Confrontation -must be dealt with.
- Vs. 21 - Why did he need to hide it? It was wrong to have it.
- They stoned Acahn and his family and burned them and all his stuff.
- We need to be grateful that God is gracious, slow to anger and full of mercy.
- We cannot play around with God. Be not deceived God will not be mocked.
- We cannot treat sin lightly. If I regard iniquity in my heart, God will not hear me.
- If I am doing something God has told me is wrong or not doing what I should, if I cling to it - God will not hear my prayers.
- If I am hanging on to a sin - god won't hear my prayer.
- God knows our heart, we know our heart, no one else may know.
- But it may be standing in the way of God's blessing for the church and for us.
- We are bought with a price.
- Glorify God in our bosy and spirit- they are His.
- We can't pretend sin is ok if no one knows.
- They deserved what they got.
- God does not ignore sin.
- Ch. 8 vs. 1 - God gave them victory and allowed them to keep the spoil.
- God expects us to do something about any known sin on our lives.
- God expects us to deal with sin in our own lives - no one can do it for us - we can't do it for others.
- We need to see God move in our midst.
- We can't keep hiding things, pretending they aren't there, or feeling like they won't be discovered.
- Ch. 7 vs. 26 - Valley of Acchor = Door of Hope
- When we have dealt with sin there is a door of hope.
- The Lord expects us to move ahead with victory.
- God is gracious and He will give us victory.

Wonderful sermon again! Really convicting for me.
Happy Sunday one more time!

Sunday Sermons

This sermon was preached on January 16th ....

It is titled - Remember Lot's Wife and is from Luke 17:22-32.

- Jesus reminds us of God's judgement.
The story we look at is found in Genesis 19 ( read the account ~smile~)
- She was well aware of God's judgement.
- She was well aware of the sin of Sodom - she witnessed it.
- Sodom and Gomorrah were filled with iniquity, thoughts were only evil continually.
- The Bible condemns iniquity always.
- Proverbs says - Fools make a mock at sin.
- Be not deceived, God is not mocked - what you sow you reap.
- She heard what the angels said - knew what God's judgement meant and that is was about to happen.
- We live in such times now.
- Jesus is coming and will exercise judgement.
- She knew the way of escape. she needed to believe and leave - quit living in wicked location and go to the mountain.
- Bible tells us to come out from the world and be separate.
- Leave iniquity - Go to God.
- Timothy was told to flee youthful lusts - it wars against the soul, pursue righteousness.
- You can't redeem yourself. Only Jesus saves.
- She knew what she needed to do.
- Son in law mocked Lot - he was not saved.
- She was well urged to escape - there were no half measures.
- We can't save others of ourselves - but we must do as Jude says and save other from fire.
- Angels did all they could to save her.
- If we sin willfully after being saved there is no hope left.
- She knew the danger of hesitating - warned don't even look back.
- David's downfall resulted from a look.
- Idle hands are the devil's playground.
- David lazed, looked, lusted, lapsed and languished.
- 2 Sam. 11 One sin led to another.
- Psalm 32
- Angels warned Lot's wife not to even look - Lot began to bargain.
- You can't play with fire and escape. Sooner or later it will catch up with you.
- You can't even look because that look will take you down a road you will regret for the rest of your life.
- Abstain from fleshly lusts - Have nothing to do with it.
- Just quit if you need help seek it.
- Flee.
- Do we want to continue living in Sodom?
- You can't live in Sodom and not have a negative impact on your life.
- Acts 17 God commands all men to repent.

Another wonderful sermon - obviously my notes don't do it justice but you get the main points. If you ever want to watch a sermon for yourselves you can Sunday afternoons at 5:30 on channel 12.

Happy Sunday again!

Sunday Sermons

Our Pastor has been preaching some really awesome sermons lately....well they are all wonderful but the last few have REALLY spoken to me so I thought I would share some of the notes I have been taking.

This sermon was preached on January 9th...

It comes from 1 John 2:15-17
Love not the world, neither the things that are int he world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.

The story we look at is in Genesis 13 (get out your Bible and read this account ~smile~)

The notes I took are in point form (hope that is ok and that you are able to understand them)
- Choices should never be taken lightly.
- No Christian paid more dearly for his sin than Lot.
- Making the choice was not wrong - what was involved with the decision was wrong (Lot was given the choice by Abram where he wanted to go)
- Lot lost everything even joy and peace with God.
- Worldliness - was why it happened to him.
- He felt here's my opportunity to get what I want.
- Attitude - Lot was worldly in his attitude.
- He looked out for himself - little care for Abram.
- We make choices and perhaps at first don't have much consequences but they can have profound effect.
- Lot walked by sight.
- 2 Cor. 5 Believers walk by faith not by sight.
- Even choices that seem small can affect us for a long time.
- We should base our choices on what God has to say.
- Live by faith. Consult God on our choices.
- Lust of the eyes made Lot's choice.
- When we walk by faith - what a glory He sheds on our way.
- Make walking by faith a purpose for this year.
- Lot made his decisions based on what he thought was best for him. Abram waited for God.
- Ambitions - Lot was worldly in his ambitions.
- Progress = move ahead. Regress = move away.
- Lot regressed.
- Lot's worldly choices caused him to move away from God.
- Lot's ambition was to city lights, to a city about to experience the wrath of God.
- Lot moves to Sodom
- Sodom and Gomorrah gave themselves over to evil thoughts.
- Perhaps he thought he was strong enough to live in the midst and not be affected - we often rationalize the same way.
- 2 Peter 2 - Lot had faith in god but his ambitions took him in the wrong direction.
- Associations - Lot was worldly in his associations.
- Gen. 19:1 - Lot was on the "welcoming committee" to Sodom. Only political leaders could sit in the gate.
- He was on the plain looking at the city - then in the city - now a city leader.
- Lot made a little choice where to go and now he is in the most evil city - there are men who want ot have sex with angels and now Lot calls them brothers. How far one little decision can take someone.
- How should we live? How should we conduct our lives?
- 2 Cor. 6 - Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers...come put from among them and be separate.
- Lot's testimony before those he tried to save was zero.
- Affections - Lot was worldly in his affections.
- He was trying to give them his virgin daughters. He's been so changed he doesn't even know what is right and wrong anymore. Man's vileness was matched by Lot's hypocrisy in willingness to give his daughters.
-Lot because of choices he made was brought to this place.
- Actions vs. 32 - He was worldly in his actions.
- Lot and his daughters escaped to the mountains.
- Lot so successfully taught his children by his example that it didn't matter what you do with your life that his daughters would do this incest.
- Don't presume that it begins with this awfulness - it started with a decision not based on faith but on sight.
- He lost everything.
- We have the choice to walk by faith. All it takes is to make a choice based on what I think is best for me, not what God says.

I hope these notes were clear enough for you. It was just such a great sermon!
Happy Sunday!
Blessings,
Liisa

Recipe Thursdays

Here is a recipe for cinnamon rolls. I make these quite often and they are quick and easy since it is not a yeast recipe.

Cinnamon Rolls

4 1/2 cups flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Fluff together with a pastry blender. Then cut in 1 cup shortening.

Pour 2 cups of milk over the mixture and blend well.

Roll into a rectangle.

Spread with margarine.

Roll it up and slice into 1/2" slices.

Place on a greased sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.

Top with glaze of icing sugar and milk.

Enjoy!

Happy Thursday!

Liisa

Whatever Wednesday

Here is something I wrote down sometime ago that really spoke to me so I thought I would share it with you.

Thought for Today - Phil Callaway

I don't know too many people who have more to complain about than my mother. She has broken both hips in seperate falls, lost her husband, her hearing and her freedom. Yet she cannot find time in her schedule to gripe. It's like she has stepped back a little farther than most of us, seeing the bigger picture, thinking not on what is wrong but on what God is making right. Grateful people don't think less of themselves they think of themselves less often.

Thanksgiving helps us focus not on what is missing but what remains. Not on what has taken place but what is yet to come.

Thankful people are quicker to accept than analyze, to compliment than to criticize.

Helen Keller thanked God for her handicaps "Through them" she wrote "I have found myself, my work and my God."

Proverbs 23:7 (NASB) For as he thinks within himself, so he is.

Think - True Thoughts
Noble Thoughts
Right Thoughts
Pure Thoughts
Lovely Thoughts

Set our minds on things above - not earthly things Col. 3:2

Dark thoughts find it hard to dwell in a mind set on light.

Happy Wednesday!

Bible Study Tuesdays

The commentary notes are by Pastor David Guzik and are taken from www.blueletterbible.org unless otherwise noted.

Matthew 2

Vs. 1-2 : The wise men....

These men were not kings, but wise men, which means they were astronomers. There were not only three, but probably a great company. they did not come on the birthnight but many days or even months later. See vs. 11.

Church traditions even tell us their names - supposedly Melchior, Caspar and Balthasar. You can see their supposed skulls in a cathedral in Cologne, Germany.

When they ask "Where is he who has been born the King of the Jews?" This shows that the whole world was looking for the Messiah, not only Israel.

"We have seen His star in the East"....It is significant that God meet them in their own medium: He guides the astronomers by a star.

My notes - This made me think about how God reaches out to each of us in the best way for us...in a way we can relate to and understand. What works for one person may not work for another.

The wise men came first to Jerusalem assuming the leaders of the Jews would be aware and excited about the birth of their Messiah.

Vs. 3 -

Herod was famous for both his magnificent public building projects and his ruthless, cruel paranoia.

Motivated by hos great paranoia and cruelty he murdered the members of the Sanhedrien, his wife, his mother in law and his three sons.

He was troubled and all Jerusalem with him....The fact that all Jerusalem was troubled with Herod was either due to the fact that the people of Jerusalem rightly feared what sort of paranoid outburst might come from Herod upon hearing of a rival king being born or because of the size and dignity of this caravan from the east.

Vs. 4-6
When Herod asks the chief priests and scribes where Christ should be born and they answered "In Bethlehem of Judea"....This shows that sadly these experts have the right information (quoting Micah 5:2) but they seem to have no interest in meeting him for themselves. (Read Micah 5:2)

Vs. 7-8
Because Herod ordered the murder of all boys 2 and under we can assume that the wise men first saw the star on the night Jesus was born, a year or so previously. Herod ordered the execution of children 2 and under just to be safe.

The journey from Persia to Judea was not quick - they may have left as soon as possible.

Herod says "Bring back word to me that I may come and worship Him also." The irony is strong. Herod claims to want to worship Jesus when he really wants to kill Him.

Vs. 9-12
The star continues to lead them - it went before them. It was a supernatural phenomenon.

The idea that there were three wise men comes from there being three gifts given.

Gold representing royalty, frankincense representing priesthood and myrrh representing death.

They worshipped Jesus - this is more important that their gifts. Imagine impressive dignitaries bowing before a young child.

Note from me - This really made me think about how they had to set aside their pride to worship Him, to bow down before a child. It is like that with our faith. We need to set aside our pride and vanity and just come to the Lord and worship. We can't care what others may think of us all that matters is what God thinks of us.

Their worship is also shown in their obedience. They are obedient to the heavenly dream and leave without serving as Herod's informants.

We see 3 different responses to Jesus and all people respond in one of these three ways.
1) Herod displayed an open hatred and hostility toward Jesus.
2) The chief priests and scribes were indifferent toward Jesus, all the while retaining their religious image.
3) The wise men sought out Jesus and worshipped Him - even at a great cost.

Vs. 13-15
Flee to Egypt....Since there was a large Jewish community there it isn't odd that the Holy Spirit would lead them there.

Joseph obeyed immediately.

Note from me - It is so important that Joseph obeyed immediately. He did not delay, he didn't hum and haw about it. God told him to go and he did. If he hadn't the consequences could have been dire. When God tells us to do something whether through His Word, the nudge of the Holy Spirit etc. we must obey immediately. As one of my friends says "delayed obedience is disobedience". To wait, or put it off until it is more convenient for us etc. is to thumb our noses at God.

Hosea 11:1 is the prophecy mention in vs. 15. (read Hosea 11:1)

Vs. 16-18
A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning - this is a quote from Jeremiah 31:5. Rachel is a picture of Bethlehem's mothers.

Vs.19-21
Again we notice Joseph's obedience.

Vs. 22-23
The phrase He shall be called a Nazarene is not a Biblically recorded prophecy, but probably just a well known rabbinical prophecy or interpretation.

Nazareth was a city which did not have a particularly good reputation (Read John 1:46) Yet God the Father did not feel it necessary to have Jesus come from a "good" city.

Questions -
1) Why do you think the chief priests and scribes had no interest in meeting the Messiah although they knew the prophecies speaking of his coming?

2) Have you ever thought of obedience as worship?

3) Why do you think the commentary says "Their worship is also manifested in obedience"?

4) When told to go to Egypt Joseph left immediately. Are you always quick to obey when God prompts you or convicts you of something? If not why? What can we do?

There you have it - our study for this week.
Happy Tuesday!

Liisa

Money Matters Monday

Our first money saving tip really explains the Flyer Friday posts. I am so guilty of not having a menu plan even though I know it is wonderful idea, keeps you organized and saves you tons of money. But I have far too many days due to lack of planning where I end up hitting the fast food places, ordering pizza or dashing into the grocery store to grab something to make since everything is frozen or I don't have what I need to go with anything at home.

The result of this poor planning and to be brutally honest with myself, laziness is that my family ends up eating junk. Bad for you, no vitamins, full of fat junk. Have you all watched the video of the year old McDonald's Burger and fries that never got moldy and really still looked kind of good? EEEWWWWWW! It was a year old! How good can it be for you to eat things that don't decompose?

Oops I got sidetracked there...the other result of my lack of planning is that it costs ALOT of money to eat out, it also costs ALOT to dash into the grocery store to grab whatever is quick and easy to make.

So after all that the tip for this week is to read the flyers each week and plan your menu accordingly taking advantage of as many deals as possible.

This little bit of extra work and planning will really pay off because not only will you save ALOT of money, your family will eat better and you will not be scrambling around at dinner time. So much less stress and so much more money!

If you are one of the ones that gets paid monthly instead of weekly then you can either divide your food budget into 4 envelopes one for each week or you can menu plan for the month and buy all your groceries at once. This is a little riskier if you have monkeys that eat you out of house and home the minute a bunch of groceries hit the house. ~smile~

Each Friday I will post deals I found in the flyers - please read them yourselves as well in case I miss something you use regularly. Then I will post several main meal ideas using the items found in the flyers to give you some ideas.

When you do your menu planning try and include breakfast, lunch and snacks and then make your grocery list based on your menu plan, that way you can avoid another pitfall of not meal planning. That pitfall is forgetting to buy something and having to go back to the store - I have been known to be in the grocery store every day and sometimes more than once a day. ~sigh~ It is very hard to go into the store and only come out with what you went in for....stores are designed to make sure that happens. Preparing ahead can really save you a bunch!

So the point is...(in case I lost you already *wink*)
1. Menu plan for all three meals and snacks each week using the flyers.
2. Make your list from your menu plan, include all other items house cleaners, soap, pet food, paper goods etc. Everything you will need for the week.
3. Shop only one day of the week, hitting the various stores on your list taking advantage of sales.
4. Stick to your list.
5. Stay out of the stores the rest of the week.
6. Save money and smile while you and your family enjoy your healthy meals and much less stress.

Happy Monday!
Blessings,
Liisa

Roast beef is a double meal option too with leftovers being used for hot roast beef sandwiches. I am sure there are many more options but these are just a few I have come up with.
