Sermon Sundays

Sorry I am so far behind - busy busy busy busy!

How is a Person Justified? Romans 5:1-11

- Job asks this question - How is a person justified?
- Justification/Justified means to be declared righteous or just as though I never sinned. As a court announcing a favorable verdict - positive outcome.
- Apart from justification we are hopeless with nothing to say when we atand before a thrice Holy God.
- Romans 3 - all the world may be guilty before God.
- We are justified if we are saved.
- Romans 3:24 - justified by grace - the principal involved here.
- Every human being feels they must do something to merit justification. We feel we can't measure up unless we do something special.
- Not of works but gift of grace.
- We want to deserve it - not by works but by mercy
- Justified freely by His grace
- Freely - no cost to recipient
- Same word Jesus uses when He says freely you have received, freely give - without merit without cost.
- Jesus did not merit being hated but they hated Him anyway.
- Justification is freely given it costs us nothing, but cost God His Son.
- romans 3:25 - Justified by His blood. Without blood no redemption of sins. Redeemed.
- Justification and redemption tied together on purpose in the Bible.
- Propitiation - God demanded a specific sacrifice was satisfied.
- Basis of God's righteousness is reason we can be justified.
- Without shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.
- We are justified by faith. The person who exercises faith in Jesus Christ. Rom. 3:26
- Something we must do - not of works - believe
- Not just acknowledging it but living in accordance with that belief
- No boasting. Justified by faith apart from work of the laws.
- What do we have to do to be justified - exercise faith
- James 2:24 - Justified by works.
- Basis is we are justified by faith in Jesus
- How do we show it to others. The fruit.
- Romans = Root James = Fruit
- How do you know trees are MacIntosh apple trees. Someone told us - we believed them. How do we know for sure? Fruit.
- How do we know we are justified? By the way we live our lives.
- Joshua 2:9 Rahab the Harlot. The Lord your God....She says you guys worship the 1 true God. I know it and I am willing to acknowledge it.
- Her actions gave evidence of her faith.
- She put her faith into action. James 2:25
- Justified Romans 5:1 Justified by faith (past tense) peace with God.
- Peace with God - God has nothing against us anymore, declared righteous. God is whollly satisfied with Jesus sacrifice. It has already been dealt with. However weak our walk may be God is looking at Jesus' blood not our sins.
- Peace with God - result of justification
- Romans 5:2 - Access to God - result of justification.
- Hope in God - result of justification.
- When a sinner stands before the bar of God He has 3 choices - condemn sinner, compromise His own holiness (not going to happen) or change the sinner into a righteous person - that is what He has done.
- No tricks - imputes to them the righteousness of Jesus. Changes them.
- God made Jesus who knew no sin to be sin for us that we may be made righteous.

Hope your Sunday was wonderful!
Blessings,
Liisa
